Survive The Night follows a girl who is trying to get home from her college after her roommate is murdered in the 1990's. However, the man she has hitched a ride with seems a bit off and might be the killer who took her best friend from her.
This book only got two stars rather than one because I found this book really fast to read thanks to Riley Sager's writing style. Other than that, I would say that this book single handedly killed my thriller mood. I don't want to say I hated this book but that's where I am leaning.
First off, I thought the premise sounded really interesting. I liked the idea of the guy in this possibly being a serial killer and this girl having to confront that. But the twist I figured out pretty much from the start of this book and was waiting for it all to come to a head.
I also despised the main character in this. It is clear this book was written by a man. I don't mean that in a mean way, I read books from men. But the decisions the main character made was one that no woman would ever make. When most women smell danger or feel unsafe, they find a way to get the hell out of there as quickly as possible. This main character kept making stupid decision after stupid decision that was so infuriating, I had to stop reading for a few minutes, take a break and come back. I found her extremely unlikeable and annoying.
I also want to talk about the ending which I will put in a spoiler wrap after this sentence. She thought Josh/Jake/whatever his name was was the killer of her best friend through 80% of this book and yet she ends up marrying him? That made absolutely no sense to me what so ever. I wish it would have ended with her being single or having married someone else, far away from this situation she found herself in. .
Honestly, I could go on and on but I don't want to be rude or mean as I have liked other Riley Sager books before. However, this one I found to be a dud and I would say if you want to give it a try, go for it. I'm not going to discourage anyone from reading a book they think sounds interesting. But this book was not for me.
