I Was Told It Would Get Easier
by Abbi Waxman
I absolutely ADORED The Bookish Life of Nina Hill (also by the witty and talented Abbi Waxman), and felt like it was the perfect ode to all things bookish! This book was very enjoyable and relatable for me, but not quite as amazing as Nina.
What I Absolutely Loved:
• The snarky sense of humor! Abbi Waxman creates such great dialogue and inner monologue that make you just LOL
• Mother/Daughter dual POV. I loved how, despite verbalizing how different they thought they were from each other, their thoughts would mirror each other’s. Something we wouldn’t know without that POV!
•So many strong women! Emily’s moral compass, Jessica’s commitment to doing what she needs while also raising her child solo, and many of Jessica’s female friends!
•Space for growth and redemption
What I didn’t love so much:
• The ending was a bit abrupt, I wanted MORE! There were just a few details that I wish had been addressed more thoroughly.
• The FBI threw me a bit (no spoilers!), but also I just kinda went with it. Because, really, I’m here for it!
SO, I Was Told It Would Get Easier is a funny and sweet coming of age story, an ode to strong independent women, and a nod to the complexities in mother/daughter relationships. Go get your copy!
