Dragon Bones by Patricia Briggs

3.0

3 1/2 stars.

This is a good classic home-journey-home story in an intruiging high fantasy setting. This should make this an automatic solid four star book. However it is very evident that this was written early in Patricia Briggs career. While there was just enough story for all the characters to have character arcs it was only just. And the pacing of the story was just odd. It has the pacing of an action novel, but is written as a high fantasy one.

The book just doesn't seem, if you will forgive my bad metaphor, like it has been cooked quite long enough. All the ingredients are there, but you do not get the opportunity to savor them, due to fast pacing and the side dish is missing too. Only the bare bones of the meal are being presented. And while that still does satisfy ones hunger, it does not necessarily satisfy ones palate.

So while I enjoyed reading it, I was dissatisfied when I was done. I will be reading the next one, just to see whether any of the loose ends get tied up there.
