Rich AF: The Winning Money Mindset That Will Change Your Life by Vivian Tu
3.0
Everything here has been covered before- snowball vs. avalanche payoff methods, budgeting (50/30/20, zero-based, etc.), and investments. But this book was clearly meant for a specific audience who has no exposure to these concepts. I've been studying financial literacy for a few years now, so I'm not part of this demographic.
For the record, I enjoy watching the FIRE movement evolve. So many people don't actually want to retire early, but instead want to have the freedom to pursue their interests without having to worry about money. And although many (most) are frugal, they also prioritize what they want to spend their money on and typically splurge on a few things (like vacations or hobbies). So Vivian's critique is really based on the old, traditional sense of FIRE.
Also, my understanding is that FU money is not equal to the financial freedom number. FU money is enough money you need to cover yourself (6 months, a year, you decide) so you can leave a toxic workplace. It does not need to cover your expenses indefinitely.
Finally, can we PLEASE get a financial book to discuss that some careers (I see you, teachers and librarians) don't have opportunities for bonuses or salary negotiations. Not everyone works in a business setting. Good grief.
