Honestly this book was so mid. There was too much telling and not enough showing, especially when it came to the personality of ther heroine. It's unfortunate because I felt like the set up was SO juicy but the rest of the book fell flat.

I was especially disappointed by the ending; I assumed that Preston would have a big redemption arc that would mostly happen off page where he would become a better man (aka NOT a criminal sleazeball real estate developer) and learn to operate with compassion and ethics as part of becoming worthy of Kat. But that....doesn't happen at all? And Kats father is honestly kind of a dick and it's not explored at all and is fully forgiven with no conversation between Kat and her dad? There are some gratifying moments where Kat stands up for herself but they can't carry the whole book unfortunately.

I mostly read this because I want to be properly set up the Duke and Nelly's book, and by God that book better DELIVER. This one is fine but you can honestly skip it.
