This installment in the Kate Daniels series hits the ground running and does not stop. These books are typically pretty fast paced but this one takes the cake. Kate and her intrepid friends once again knowingly step into a trap when a conclave (a meeting between the Pack and the vampire controlling Order) is called while Curran is away. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Pack is vulnerable when divided. When Kate learns that the Order has engineered the murder of one of the Order by one of the Pack, she knows war is on the horizon and is determined to stop it.
Along with the first book in the series, this was my favourite. It brings a pretty big story arc to resolution with a confrontation between Kate and the head of the Order, Roland. It also allows Kate to truly demonstrate how powerful she is and there's a lot of Order butt-kicking that occurs which just makes me happy. Finally, I also liked Curran a lot better in this book which upped the enjoyment for me.
