As I could not handle The Sympathizer, this was a really beneficial way to reintroduce me to the Vietnam War at a level I could comprehend and had capacity to process at this time. The reading is easy, but I wouldn’t be able to say if it was over dramatic or flowery, which Hannah has been known to sprinkle into her books. It was palatable enough that Al listened to it with me in the car. I am interested in reading more into this soon. Would recommend to anyone who is willing to read something ALMOST educational, but also understands that it must be read with a grain of salt. Good intro to a convoluted perceptively black and white war. Which is absolutely was not.
