Fourth Wing
by Rebecca Yarros
OH MY GOD!
This is the best fantasy book I've read since A Court of Wings and Ruin, and that's really saying something ladies.
Right from the jump, Violet's story draws you in. Without ever having to read a single information dump, you understand exactly what she's expected to do to succeed and all the 'rules' of her world. I honestly think that this book would be just as interesting without its love story, which is SO impressive for this genre because it's so common for a book to be mainly driven by its love story instead of that just being one element of the overall plot.
My jaw dropped so many different times - during Threshing?!?!! WHAT!!! When we find out what a feathertail really is?!!?! When Tairn and the blue dragon are mates?!?!! and the twist with Dain was a little predictable but still SO good.
Honestly what makes this book so good is that it's an absolute blast to read. The premise is so much fun and the characters feel new. It's easy to compare new characters and stories to familiar ones, but this book isn't "Divergent meets ACOTAR" and Dain isn't Chaol; this book is strong enough on its own that in the future, we'll be comparing our characters to Violet and our stories to Fourth Wing.
