Kate Bateman at her best. Absolutely delicious. So funny, swoony, and sexy!
Tess Townsend’s father forced her to marry a decrepit, lecherous old Duke of Wansford who kicked the bucket on their wedding night, leaving her a virgin with the freedom and money to start King & Co., a detective agency focused on supporting women. Justin Thornton, is a rich merchant he’ll bent on sparing himself the pain his father endured after the death of his mother. He also ends up the Duke of Wansford, after a string of awful luck for the rest of the line. To save himself the aggravation of matchmaking mamas, he proposes marriage to Tess, as a sort of built in Duchess (he also thinks she’s super hot).
I know… it sounds like a LOT. And it is. But it all works so well. These two have smoking hot chemistry and banter for days. There’s hidden identity, a grand gesture gone wrong, and a quirky girl gang to boot! I wanted a little more of Tess and Justin happy at the end, but I’m hoping to get some of that in the rest of the series!
