The Start of Me and You
by Emery Lord
Paige is entering her junior year in high school and she's got a planner full of goals to help her heal from the tragic death of her boyfriend the summer before. Her goals are all centered around living life to its fullest and includes some of the standard teen girl goals (i.e. dating, being more social, joining a club), but it also includes swimming because her boyfriend drowned and since that event all things water have been at the center of Paige's nightmares.
What follows is a year of complicated family issues: Paige's divorced parents start dating each other, and Paige's grandmother struggles with Alzheimer's and other health issues; new friends: Paige's circle of girlfriends expands to welcome a pair of cousins; and budding romance: Paige discovers she's ready to love again.
I love the dialogue and the characterization will have readers cheering for everybody. I loved living in this world and I can't wait to reread this book. I highly recommend it for fans of contemporary YA fiction, especially fans of Morgan Matson, Kasie West, and Jennifer Niven.
