I thought this was book was tragic in a good way (in the only way this kind of story can really go). I wanted her mother and father to still be alive when Norma was reunited so there could be reckoning but I suppose this was more realistic. I also found that telling this story through a pair of two siblings in parallel as they went through life was really powerful, and allowed us to witness the domino effect of this single act (good analogy for how white supremacy functions). I think it’s missing a 5 because I just wasn’t as deeply connected to the characters and the stories, and I think I wanted a slightly stronger commentary.
