Perfect Is Boring: 10 Things My Crazy, Fierce Mama Taught Me about Beauty, Booty, and Being a Boss by Tyra Banks, Carolyn London

5.0

I have been a fan of Tyra Banks for a long time. I loved Life Size, I loved her talk show, and I was a fan of ANTM — even if I didn't watch it super regularly as it aired. (I have since watched every season except cycle 23, which didn't even include Tyra, so....)

When I first learned about the book, I was very excited. In it, Tyra and her mom, Carolyn London, talk back and forth about experiences in their lives — ones they've gone through together and separately — and you could just feel how much love is between the two. It was wonderful.

Together, they tackled a lot of issues facing girls and women today, all while being honest and open, and most importantly, supportive. They talked about their struggles and where they thrived. It made them seem so relatable. And feeling like you can relate to a supermodel is not the most common occurrence, at least to me.

Also — I highly recommend listening to the audiobook. Tyra and her mama narrate it, and I think that just enhances the experience tremendously.
