Heartache by Annie Bellet

3.0

REREAD 2019
I'm rereading the whole series in preparation for my first time reading [b:Magic to the Bone|29558243|Magic to the Bone (The Twenty-Sided Sorceress, #7)|Annie Bellet|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1458469174l/29558243._SY75_.jpg|49434964]

Unfortunatly, I found this book rather boring on my second listen. Yes, that last scene is intense and interesting, but the rest of it? Not really.
I think it is because there isn't really a plot here, compared to the earlier books. Jade is just running around trying to stave of one thing after another, all of them seeming... I don't know... unneccesary? Sure, I understand the whole ''Samir is playing with her'' thing, but as a book, it isn't all that interesting.

Also, am I the only one, or did Jade change over night? Sure, she's always been a bit of a back-talker and cursing to seem tough, but the whole Dick and Balls thing actually felt out of character for me. The reason I'm thinking so now may be because of what I mentioned in my original review of [b:Hunting Season|23303229|Hunting Season (The Twenty-Sided Sorceress, #4)|Annie Bellet|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1421533780l/23303229._SY75_.jpg|42858570], everything is starting to feel a little more like Jane Yellowrock from [b:Skinwalker|5585788|Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1)|Faith Hunter|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1400516601l/5585788._SY75_.jpg|5757031], but it may also just be me seening things where there aren't any.

That said, time to read on to next one!

New rating: 3/5 stars

Nope, this is not ok, just so you know!
I did not like the cliffhanger, and the fact that I have no idea when the next book will be out as an audio.

Other than that, I have some mixed feelings.
I love this world Bellet has created. I love the characters and how she build the story. I enjoy her writing and like the narrator of the audios.

But, I'm starting to see a lot of resemblance to Faith Hunter's series about Jane Yellowrock.
I won't say exactly what it is, but there are a lot of things that seem inspired from the longer series in this book, which I found kind of sad.

If I hadn't read the Yellowrock-series, though, I wouldn't have given it any thought and I would have loved it - in a sad kind of way, 'cause it is sad, but I'd have liked it.

Still looking forward to reading the rest of this series, though!
