When I first read this seven years ago I quite enjoyed it, even if the play section bored me to tears and the romantic interest was endlessly frustrating and unlikable. But I did quite like Fanny, and enjoyed having a protagonist who was shy and uncertain of herself.
Sadly, reading it again now, I found her incredibly frustrating too. She is passive in her own life to the point of seriously endangering her future and others', has no spirit and loves people who are intolerably cruel to her.
The happy ending does not feel very happy or satisfying at all.
