Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano

dark sad medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? Character
  • Loveable characters? No

3.0

I didn’t really enjoy this that much. It was a sad premise, but the emotion was severely lacking. I didn’t feel anything while reading this; no tears were shed. I didn’t connect to any of the characters, and I wish there was more about the other passengers because they weren’t developed enough. All the side characters were just checking off stereotypes.

The technical plane talk at the very end leading up the the crash was just a mood killer because it was so robotic to read. There was hardly any emotion.

I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop the whole time, and the whole plot was such a flat line. There was never a moment where I was moved or really felt that coming-of-age arc.
