The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende

I hesitate between loving this and feeling meh. Overall, it moved too quickly for me and didn’t leave room for much heart. I seek after those rare sentences of prose or a rare glimpse into someone’s character otherwise lost to the world of movement. And because this moved too fast and didn’t pause on any one thing or person or event long enough, I never felt that connected to the story. That said, the backdrop of political drama was so well written into the story. I felt like to learn the workings of those political feats one would normally have to read something dense (or be privy to the inner workings of current governments...) and I really appreciated the writing of it into the story of a family over 3 generations.
