Fairy Tale
by Stephen King
My first Stephen King novel and it did not disappoint.
I won’t go into the synopsis too much, as with my opinion of most books, and definitely with this, going in with less of a idea of what’s going to happen is best. The blurb of the book itself gives too much away imo.
Fairy Tale follows a 17 year old boy who has experienced the loss of his mother and having to live with his alcoholic father. He meets a grumpy old man called Howard and his dog Radar. He instantly falls in love with Radar (and so will the reader) and the story follows him as he sets out to help the dog and his owner.
This book does a fantastic job of waving in the real world with fairy tales. There’s a real slice of life that somehow fits in perfectly with a magical world this book creates. The concept is actually so simple and so text book but the characters and the messages taken away from this makes it so much more. I weren’t in a rush to get to the end of this as I just wanted to sit and enjoy the story in a slower pace.
If you’re a animal lover who classes pets as part of the family you’ll be a sucker for this one too.
