The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson

1.0

(Putting the date as December of 2019 so it doesn't mess with my 2020 challenge)

I saw this at Books-A-Million on Black Friday last year and bought it on a whim because as a trans guy myself, I was excited to possibly see myself represented. It's been sitting on my shelf since then, untouched and unread. When I researched the author and discovered that she isn't trans, I was skeptical(because cis people always fuck up our stories lmao) but then saw that she worked with trans people hands-on and was like "okay maybe this won't be so bad."

I was wrong. I still haven't read it, but judging by the reviews I'm unhauling it ASAP. To every cis person who read or is planning to read this book and want to give it five stars, PLEASE listen to the trans people in the reviews. When we say this book is chockfull of transphobic tropes, we aren't pulling it out of our asses.
