5.0

One of the easiest 5 stars I have given this year!

After studying and training to be a scribe, Violet finds herself forced into training to be a Dragon Rider but the general, who just happens to be her Mum. This leaves Violet with no choice but to survive .. because the alternative is to die trying.

From the outset, there is so much action and tension and this book dug it’s claws in pretty quickly.

The cast of characters is fantastic, our FMC Violet is amazing and will be so inspirational for a lot of people I’m sure, Xadan will have the  morally grey girlies drooling and Jack will have everyone laughing. Not only are all the characters thought out and well written but they act their age; they have the banter and sometimes they don’t act the ‘right way’ but they take accountability and I love that.

The stakes in this book are so high as more and more first years die off throughout the year as they face the gruelling trials the school presents them with. When you add to that the threat of peers killing you for your mother’s actions .. you absolutely are guaranteed a dramatic first year.

And then of course there is the slow burn enemies to lovers morally grey perfection that is Xadan. The tension is perfect, the spice is perfect..

Between inclusion, dragons, spice, banter, drama, tension, high stakes.. there isn’t a thing I can fault
