I am truly unable to construct a review that adequately depicts the absolute awe this series has left me with. As an avid reader I often opt for series, and just as often I’m left feeling unsatisfied by book two. By book three and skies forbid book four, I’ve grown resentful of the characters and tired of the plot.
When I first started this series I went in with certain expectations and was completely blown away. While I’ve seen people talk about this series it’s not nearly as hyped up as it should be. These books completely transformed my life. It altered the way I think not only about how easily we’re able to submit to ignorance and brutality when it benefits us but, also about the complexities of emotions.
I typically say in all my reviews of books I enjoyed that they have carved themselves onto my soul. The same can’t be said for this series, for I left a part of my soul between the pages of each book. Buried deep in the Empire, in the Waiting place, in Nur under the soft glow of the moons light off of splintered mirror, with each and every character. I am altered and I am not okay.
P.S: Harper and Darin’s fate killed me. I had my suspicions about Avitas but when Darin died I was actually shocked. I’m still processing but it was both poetic and devastating all at once.
