Oh, I have FEELINGS about this book!
So basically, this book follows two characters that are both a list celebrities in the countries that they’re from. First of all, we have Rafael, who is the lead singer of a boy band who literally won album album of the year at the Grammys. Rafael becomes obsessed with this one. Member of a K-pop group called Jaehyun. This story follows these two characters, and how they end up falling in love.

First of all, let me just say that the author did such a great job of making Jaehyun seem like an absolute enigma, fairytale, out of this world being. The story is mostly told from Raphael’s point of view, so, especially in the beginning, you absolutely can feel the obsession, reverence, and almost worship that he has for Jae. It makes the book so interesting. There are also so many opportunities for tension and longing between them, especially before hand. Their relationship is so high stakes, not only because they’re both incredibly famous, but also because Rafael has a fiancé. I will say that I didn’t really like the cheating aspect of this book, but I do understand that Rafael‘s relationship with his fiancé was quite a big part of the story.

For me, I absolutely loved reading about Jaehyun. She is just so good, and you can tell that he has so many complexities going on inside of him, though the book doesn’t really explore them that deeply. On one hand, I kind of wish the book did explore his feelings more deeply because I feel like it would’ve really Allowed him to grow as a character. On the other hand, I feel like having him stay more mysterious in terms of his inner feelings, also is part of what makes him so interesting.

In terms of their relationship dynamic, I found a lot of things about these two to be very real and relatable. All of the cultural differences between them, we’re done really well. I also think that a lot of the way that the author handled Korean culture and the way that Korean society works as a whole was done very well. There was only one point at the end of the book that made me think “That would never happen in Korea.”

There were so many little details in this book that were so sweet and lovely. The one thing that disappointed me, though, was a lot of these little details were touched on just once, and then never revisited later. I feel like this book could’ve been more impactful, if some of those small little details were Revisited or just made more significant for the character characters. I did think the pacing of this book was fairly good, but there were sometimes where the execution of major plot lines could have been handled a little bit better, I think. The end of the book was a little bit, rushed as well, and we have a few loose ends, especially on Jaehyun’s side.

One thing I will say is that Rafael is so completely enamoured with Jae, but on the other hand, he really seems shallow. Since he is an Uber Rich rockstar, I actually think that it kind of suits him as a character. It kind of shows that he’s not perfect. Even though his feelings for Jae are undeniable, a lot of times they are a little bit surface level. You can also feel this with his relationship with his band mates, his music career in general, and even the rest of his family. I don’t know if this is done on purpose or if it is by design, but if it is by design, I think that it’s actually pretty great writing.

Anyways, I feel like the reason why I have picky commentary about this book is because I really really loved it so much. I think the concept was amazing, I personally related to the dynamic of the characters, though not exactly to the characters themselves. The high stakes setting that it takes place in definitely kept me on the edge of my seat as I was reading. I’m so excited to read the next book in the series, which comes out soon!
