The Devil You Know by Nicole Northwood

3.0

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

The synopsis sounded so interesting, but it ended up not being my cup of tea style-wise.
While I generally like descriptive writing, it felt like the wrong things were being focused on. Example, the main character is in the heat of a moment and focused on that her panties were new because he gave her a raise?? This did ease up a bit later in the book, but still felt like there were more obvious things to be focused on.

I didn't feel like there was any plot or major problem to interest me into wanting to keep reading. It was basically Cam is bored, and has obsessive repetitive thoughts.
It wasn't until around chapter 7 that anything really happened, and it was resolved just as quickly. There were "bad guys", but at no point did they ever feel like they were a threat or would pose some kind of actual problem.
I almost DNF, and ended up skimming most of the book after that point.

I did think it was interesting that there was only one time jump, and the rest was one flowing scene. It gave it a bit of a soap opera vibe, and that the chapters were there to give the reader stopping points if needed.

If you're just starting to get into smut, and like soap operas, then this is a good start
