Death and Croissants by Ian Moore
4.0

What a delight this book was to read. A surprisingly charming and funny whodunnit set in the Loire Valley in France. We follow Richard Ainsworth as he runs a B&B and spends his time watching old movies and generally enjoying his retirement. However, when he finds a bloody handprint in one of the guest bedrooms and no sign of the guest, he is persuaded into the role of amateur sleuth, charged with solving the mystery. The characters are quirky, entertaining, and well drawn and the mystery at the heart of Iain Moore’s first book is such fun. It is your typical cosy mystery fare but that is a plus, never a negative. After all, who doesn't love a cosy mystery? I will admit, I did guess the mystery but that is half the fun when it comes to these. All in all, I really enjoyed my time with Death and Croissants. It is light-hearted with a certain spark and I hope this is the beginning of a long and successful series.
