Ahhhh look... I don't know how to feel about this one. I like Poppy a lot, but the dynamic between her and Casteel was... fuck. It was annoying. Stop pretending, talk about your feelings, and for god sake, COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER. This book could have been called A Relationship of Toxicity and Stabbing.
I feel like it was a bit of a frustrating read, with not a lot happening? They travelled from one town to the next. Literally, for 85% of the book, they travelled. And had very ill timed sex. Over and over. And over. AND OVER. Because who needs communication when you can just squeeze an orgasm out of your fiancé? The last 15% was good though.
And the writing? Other than there being unnecessary smut (I never thought I would say that, but for real, it was so ill timed), I just feel like some of the story had plot holes? Like, her gift didn't develop being when knowing someone was in pain until now. Prior to that, that is all she had. Yet, she explains being able to identify chocolate over strawberries as the feeling of "love" because she felt it from her parents and Ian? HOW?
I am not SOLD on Casteel as a MMC. He is not doing it for me. Granted, I think I am comparing him to the likes of Rhys, Cassian, KINGFISHER, Lorcan etc. It's probably not his fault, I probably now just have really high expectations.
Kieran... he's a good lad. I am a fan. I just hope he remains for a while more.
Alastir... my guy... I am suss on you.
