The Prophets by Robert Jones Jr.
5.0
This book was difficult to read, and I take issue with some of the reviews that I have seen that label it as "incoherent" and even "pretentious." While I read this as a part of my Pride month reading (and I think others should as well!) it was more than just good queer literature. It was a novel about memory and trauma and longing. I found the wide assortment of characters and voices presented to be very effective and moving. I think placing the weight of comparison to Morrison and Baldwin has given some readers an excuse to take an unfavorable view of a novel that has carved out its own space in an underrepresented and under taught canon.
