Maame
by Jessica George
This is a great coming of age-ish story. Maddie is in her mid twenties and doesn’t feel passionate about much. Her father has Parkinson’s disease and she is his primary caregiver, while her brother follows his dreams and rarely calls, and her mother is living in Ghana running a hostel. Maddie lacks purpose and uses her mother returning to London as an excuse to revamp her life and be her own person. Tragedy strikes and it throws Maddie into a depression she can’t escape. This novel was amazing to listen to, it helped to hear pronunciations and appropriate accents for characters. The ending was sweet and wrapped up nicely. Highly recommend!
