Rant by Chuck Palahniuk

4.0

This was... interesting?
I’ll start out by saying I love Chuck Palahniuk and I loved him even more after meeting him in person. He’s a stellar writer and I think sometimes it’s hard to rate his work objectively because the subject matter can be really off-putting. For example: I don’t like reading about gross body stuff, but it’s literally a plot device in all of his books. Rant is no exception.
That being said, this book really is brilliant, like all his fiction. The ending was a complete surprise but also everything was funneling you into that ultimate party crash of a wrap up. The characters were all interesting and well developed for having only had small bits of dialogue scattered throughout the book. The concept is so ridiculous it borders on cheeky the way Palahniuk makes you start to believe the impossible is possible toward the last few chapters.
All in all this book was great. I knocked off a star because the first half didn’t grab my attention the way his stories usually do, and I expected I guess a more post apocalyptic type of world than he gave me based on the story. All in all it was well worth the read, but I wouldn’t start with this one if you’ve never read his books before.
