Re-reading this series after a good 15 years was an interesting experience. The characters are still wonderful (of course, this is a Tamora Pierce book!), but many of the descriptive passages were a little confusing and underdeveloped. I laughed aloud at so many of the scenes and interactions within these books, but I did want to love them more. Nevertheless, this is a fun series, and the 12 year-olds I've been reading it aloud to have certainly been enjoying it enough!
