This book was pretty fun to read. I liked a lot of the characters, the dialogue, and the world-building. I was a bit nervous that I would get lost with the list of musical terms to remember for different timings, but it was actually pretty easy to pick up as you read. I think it added some whimsy to the story, which is needed with some of topics the story delves into.
The characters are all fun and unique - I appreciated some of the references, and have theories about where some will end up in the remaining books. I adore Hoot - he was my favorite character! And I liked his thoughts about what was going on.
I do wish we had gotten more from Trudy's pov, and maybe some pov from Philistina. Michael was a bit frustrating. I understand his motivations, and that his growth will continue through the rest of the trilogy, but I just did not enjoy his POV through the second half of the book.
The world was fascinating with all the technology and magic. Everything was described so well, I could almost see it. The dialogue was fairly snappy and philosphy was interesting. I am very curious to where the story will go and look forward to the next book!
