The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin

2.0

The cover is gorgeous. I love looking at it. It matches the Mara Dyer series so well.
I didn't have a problem with the content of this book.

I thought reading from Noah's perspective was good. I enjoyed it. Somewhat. I did have some difficulty understanding some things. There were several confusing sentences that didn't seem to fit. Eventually, I realized that there was no deciphering some of his thought structure and just kept on reading through it. However, I did like the voice of Noah despite some of the trouble I had.

Mara was a very...creepy character in this series. She didn't seem like the same person from the Mara Dyer series.

I really liked the mesh of old and new characters. It was really fun to see them all interact together.
But the dialogue between them sometimes.....was way off and SO unnatural. It was pretty awful sometimes and didn't tend to flow well most of the time.

Also, can I point out that literally NOTHING happened in this book? Like, where was the plot? The plot was nowhere to be seen until about the last 30 or so pages of this freakin book! That's 330 pages where NOTHING HAPPENS! It was super frustrating and just went on for too long. It tried to be such a horror book and fell short. It should have grounded itself as a thriller/suspense and worked on that aspect more rather than making it a giant mystery/horror novel.

I had such high hopes for this book and I feel very let down. Not sure I'll finish this series but the covers are so gorgeous....I don't know. We'll see.
