Enjoyed this book and I can see why people say it can get them out of a reading slump. I enjoyed this diversion from what I usually read, as it was chilling  and gorey. I will say, I think the gore is massively overhyped, as this is definitely not the worst I could read in that category. Yeah, it’s disturbing but I believe you expect that going into the book.

I can agree with the conversation around this book, in that it does feel underdone. If Bazterrica expanded this and talked about the philosophical and ethical implications of a society like this, I find it would have been more compelling. Though I loved it, don’t get me wrong, I can see why people say it’s not as compelling as it wishes to be. I wish Bazterrica spent more time on this and developed it a loooot more. A harrowing tale of greed and selfishness, and is a perfect Halloween-time read.
