The Tenth Girl
by Sara Faring
This was really a 2.5 star for me. I bumped it to 3 because the writing was well done in certain parts and there were quite a few quotes I tabbed to come back to.
Overall, I didn’t love it but didn’t hate it. Near the end I honestly lost interest though and was just trying to get through it since I had made it like 85% through.
Possible spoilers:
My biggest complaint about this story was the weird “twist” at the end. It felt like for most of the book that the story was headed in a direction, then BAM we hit a brick wall that was meant to be the plot twist you didn’t see coming but I don’t think it landed the way the author intended. Hear me out. I can see where this was supposed to be a shock and like “woah, I thought we were reading this specific genre I’m so surprised” but it just didn’t work for me. It felt more like near the end the author decided this story was going to be too generic paranormal so let’s just try to shock the readers by going in a completely unrelated direction. I’ve never read anything quite like it and I think there must be a reason for that? The plot twist also weirdly made me care less about the characters and where they story was going at the point.
Definitely spoilers:
I am so annoyed that I spent MOST of this book becoming invested in characters and their back stories just to find out they are simulated? Like what the hell was I even reading? I still don’t know.
