Conan the Barbarian Vol. 1: The Life and Death of Conan Book One by Jason Aaron
3.0
For my first Conan read this was pretty solid.
This is just a bunch of solo stories. They all kind of connect, well in the sense they revolve around Conan. The first issue sets kind of the blueprint of how they will go but also giving the backstory of most of the stories in here. Conan is tricked by a witch and is on the way to being killed. That's how the first issue starts and the next 5 issues kind of go over different events in Conan's life to come to this point.
The thing is, the stories are all solid. Some are better than others. The first issue was actually the weakest for me but the stories of Conan among a new tribe of people, facing off against snakes, and also stories of nearly being hung and stuff all worked well. This is typical war stories with a angry man who wants to just survive. The art is solid enough, brutal when needed, but not overly done, which is nice.
While nothing mind-blowing, it's all pretty good, and I'll check out volume 2. A 3 out of 5.
