Omg this book is absolutely unhinged and I LOVED it. It’s really brilliant satire thriller and I couldn't put it down. I thought June was such a believable, unlikeable character. Her POV, with her subtle racist and self-victimizing thoughts, was so on point. It was insanely fascinating to read from June’s viewpoint to see how she slowly came to believe she was entitled to Athena’s work and to watch June go through the mental gymnastics of claiming, as a white woman, she was oppressed because her original work never took off since those opportunities were instead “taken” from her by all those “diverse” stories by nonwhite authors.

Lots of food for thought on social media culture, which stories are allowed to be told by whom, what type of stories involving marginalized people sell the best (a lot of aspects around this reminded me of the movie American Fiction!) and how the publishing industry can compartmentalize nonwhite authors into works deemed their area. So many nuggets in this book!! I’ll be thinking about it for a while!!
