A Restless Truth
by Freya Marske
This series combines two things that I rarely see done together - compelling worldbuilding, and smut. I want to know everything about this secret magical society and the rules that it operates on. The lore runs deep, and even our characters are just scratching the surface of everything Marske is hinting at here. The smut is just a bonus, and honestly goes a lot harder than I’m used to for this genre. I feel like I’m reading the Playboy for the prose. But about this book specifically - Violet and Maude are two strong personality types that complement each other, which is a trope I’m fond of. Violet was my favorite, being very colorful, and layered, and having secrets. Maude seems great too, but I share Violet’s concerns that she is still a baby and who knows. I’m looking forward to the third book because I still have a lot of questions I want answered.
