Therese loses her parents right at the beginning of the boom and sees the underworld. She meets Hypnos, the god of sleep, and his brother Thanatos, the god of the dead. A cascade of events is set off when she impulsively kisses Thanatos. This being his first kiss in his very long life, he falls in love with her. He then convinces his father, Hades, to allow him 40 days on earth to win Therese's heart so he can take her as his bride.
Here's the thing. I'm not a fan of YA. It's creepy to me to have a 15 year old girl talking about marriage. I have a 16 year old so I know the hormonal ups and downs of teens and making that kind of decision that young is ishy.
However, the book has some beautiful descriptions, even if Therese is a total of a Mary-Sue, perfect in every way. She is a musician, swimmer, animal whisperer, and she's humble and sweet. I think I also like darker or more comedic books. Give me laughs or give me blood! So, if you're a YA fan, you might like this. I gave it 3 stars because it's not a bad book, but I won't be reading anymore of the series.
