tiwagos 's review for:
The Matzah Ball
by Jean Meltzer
First off, this is not my usual genre, but I liked the idea of a cute Jewish rom-com, especially around Hanukkah. The descriptions of the actual faith are detailed and beautiful. The story was a fun, heartfelt, and fantastic read.
Secondly, and most important to me, this book is severely needed (and underrepresented) spoonie lit. As a disabled person, the story is very meaningful, especially in a world where ablism rules. As chronically ill people (especially those of us in the working world), so much of our lives are secret and constantly hidden. This book (and even the Author's note) made me feel so seen and valid in a way that is very rare. I'm thankful for this book and the author.
[I'm reviewing this book for what it is, as a whole, and its themes, and I'm not docking stars for a few lines here and there that could be misconstrued.]
