This sat on my TBR for to long. This story is beautifully written and I think it truly captured the experience of living through WWII. Hannah's research for the book definitely showed. She also has an knack for makeing you feel all the complexity of relationships. The relationship between sisters felt similar to my own relationship with mine. The love between partners, or in some cases the enemy, felt palpable. This book transported me in time and made me cry which is hard to do! Would highly recommend.
