The book is narrated by a very sensitive and kind character that lives in a place he calls the House, which consists of a series of halls filled with statues, and the presence of tides coming in and out of those rooms. He has contact with one Other person in this place, and with birds and sea life.

The story of this place and these characters is quite mysterious, and it unfolds in a good pace, not going too slowly either too fast. The concepts and characters described felt quite real to me — even if most of what was happening was fantastic and magical — making the book to be quite gripping and enjoyable, and not at all pretentious.

I knew this book had very good reviews but to be honest, I didn't expect to find in it what I found, and to enjoy it so much.
