Death at La Fenice
by Donna Leon
The strength of this mystery is the setting. Venice is why I picked it up, and it's very tangibly and vividly drawn. The range of suspects is likewise well-drawn, though they do feel more like archetypes than deep and complex characters. I was engaged by the mystery and it kept me turning the page. However, I never felt a deep emotional connection to anything happening on page, and I don't feel any burning desire to rush out for the next book in the series. An easy read.
