Know My Name by Chanel Miller

emotional informative sad tense medium-paced

5.0

Everyone should read this book - males, females, teens, adults!  It is a striking look at how rape not only changes the person assaulted, but their friends and family. The ridiculous way that victims are treated or mistreated and how in rape cases the victims are assumed at fault until proven otherwise.

Seeing the impact of court process on Chanel, her family and the brave witnesses who stepped up not only that night, but over and over again during the next 3 years.  The biggest take-away for me was the thought - which she so eloquently worded - that sex with a women is expected/allowed/assumed UNLESS the women says NO.  Why?  Why isn't the answer no unless we say Yes?

Fantastically and emotionally written.
