The Age of Miracles
by Karen Thompson Walker
I have mixed feelings about this beautifully written book. It's a slice-of-life story that shows what happens when the world begins to spin more slowly on its axis through the eyes of a girl. I liked that the pace was slow, that despite disaster striking, things are still taken a day at a time. I also liked that the author kept the focus on the main character and her family, rather than on the disaster. The earth slowing always loomed in the background, but was never the primary focus of the action.
I never did quite get why the book was titled as it was. Though there were very few miracles, I came away from the book feeling melancholic, but a tiny bit hopeful.
