Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell

The War is supposedly over and has left Simon without any magical abilities. In an attempt to brighten his mood, Penelope plans for a road trip across America.

Their vacation takes an unexpected turn when they suspect that Agatha may be in danger. The subsequent rescue mission leads the trio and their new-found friend, Shepard, straight into the lair of a conniving organization that could prove to be disastrous for vampires and magicians alike.

This was such an entertaining book; I did not feel like setting it down at all! The writing is humorous and engrossing. The British colloquialism adds a charm to the entire narrative. I officially declare that Baz is one of my favourite characters EVER.

His, Simon and Penny's easy camaraderie brought a smile to my face. Their effortless friendship was one of the main factors that drove the story forward. I am always eager to read books with road trips in them, and this one was just as much fun to read about. There are enough twists and turns in the novel to keep this plot point from becoming trite.

Baz and Simon's relationship, that took a hit in the aftermath of the War, is explored beautifully in the book. It felt natural and I was rooting for them throughout the book.

There's a cliffhanger in the end, and I am going to have to wait close to a year for the third book! Oh the anticipation. If this series were to go on for a few more installments, I'd love nothing more.
