Capitalist Realism: Is There No Alternative? by Mark Fisher

hopeful informative reflective

4.0

I’ve been wanting to actually start using my brain and doing the work of learning myself lately and this was a great first step. It’s super short and accessible, as Fisher uses media (films more specifically) to help ground some of the larger critiques of late stage capitalism. Overall I found this fascinating and learned a lot about how to shift mindset. Namely, how capitalism doesn’t allow the imagining of any other way of life, so its inner workings and bureaucracies grow like fungi to support itself. But there is more out there! And we should be exploring or at the very least imagining something better (outside of late stage capitalism) to help improve the very flawed system we are chained to - and to help our larger society find real meaning again without stifling their cognitive dissonance.
