A Beauty and the Beast story that’s all heart with a man who isn’t a total jerk.

Seriously. There has to be a bit of a jerk aspect with a Beauty and the Beast storyline. The whole ‘he takes her prisoner’ thing is pretty key. But most BatB stories deal with men who are jerks the whole entire time and take way too long to soften. AND they’re usually jerks all around who have no redeeming qualities before their princess comes along.

Well, Roman has redeeming qualities. He had a brother that he knew nothing about. When his brother’s 5 year old son landed on his doorstep Roman didn’t hesitate to take him in and treat him as his own child. He found out about Fawn initially when searching for a babysitter. (Random side note...I am really not fawn’d* of that name *pun intended) He fell for her just by seeing her picture.

Their first meeting was less than polite. I was initially quite worried. His inner monologue in the first chapter alluded to a caring man who genuinely wouldn’t want to hurt the woman he inexplicably fell for at a secondhand glance. In spite of this, he was extremely curt and rude when she showed up. But it didn’t take long for him to figure out that he didn’t have to work so hard to get her to stay. Just like he hoped from the first moment, he had an Ace ‘in the hole’. (I didn’t realize it’d be so easy to find puns with these names. At least I wasn’t Roman’ for them...they just appeared——yes, I know that one was awful)

Either way, it’s a sweet book as I always expect from Lucy Darling. It’s also got an awesome steam factor and an intriguing storyline. I highly recommend it for my fellow short romance lovers!
