Club Dead by Charlaine Harris

2.0

Why do I keep reading these? Must have a masochistic streak in me. I watched the show first, and liked the show a lot, so I'm finding the books to be very jarring. The show's writers took Ms. Harris' throwaway characters and made them awesome. Case in point, Russel Edginton, a truly cheesy epic villain in the show is an empty sketch of a character in this book. Tara? So much more interesting in the show. Actually most of the characters are very flimsy, brought to life only by the vapid observations of Sookie. And what's with all of the brand name product mentions? Endorsement deal for carpet cleaner and pizza?

Will I keep reading? Probably, since I'm a completionist and am fascinated by the differences between TV and book versions of everything.
