4.5⭐️. I am always looking for new and topical books for my classroom. Bullying has become even more of an issue over the years and for some reason, nothing seems as acceptable as fat shaming. As someone who has struggled with her weight and had both peers and parents who gave me a difficult time because of it (though not to the same degree as the main character), I could really relate.
I loved the second half. As Ellie talked with a therapist, she became stronger and advocated for herself in very healthy ways. I think this book was written in an interesting and accessible way. I think it would help some kids become more confident, and maybe others more compassionate.
I am happy to have a copy in my classroom library.
