The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas

2.0

I’m so disappointed:( This book was the jack of all trades and the master of none. The first half of the book could have been summed up in chapter or two. I think the author gave a necessary amount backstory that really did not help amplify the current story. I am all for slow burns but reading this book felt like pulling teeth. I also did not like the fact that to address brace and sexism in the story. At times Catalinas outburst felt performative and unnecessary. She was playing into the fiery Latina trope :( I’m disappointed because I really thought I would like this book and I just didn’t. That being said once the book FINALLY picked up the pace the author did an amazing job building the chemistry. The light touches, quick gazes and moments that made my breath stop, I was absolutely enthralled. Overall the romance was good but the story’s format was weak and slightly underwhelming.

Catalina
GOD THIS WOMAN IS SO FREAKING ANNOYING. WE GET IT YOU HAD SOME TRAUMA IN YOUR PAST AND NOW YOU CANT MOVE ON. This sounds really harsh but I promise if you read the book or look for spoilers you’ll get what I mean. UGH I’m sorry she’s so annoying. Getting your heart broken is not the end of the world even if it feels like it. And I love that she’s supposed to be fiery and bubbly but it just came across as childish and performative. I’m sorry but the whole reason you don’t like Aaron is … because you overheard him saying something that hurt your feelings? Big freaking deal. That’s life. No need to build a mountain out of a mole hill. Honestly she made me want to rip my hair out for more than half the book. She’s a jerk and she only thinks about herself. Aaron is not a prince and definitely has faults but Lina is so… lackluster. If you’re going to be strong then be strong! But please don’t go back and forth.

AARON ON THE OTHER HAND WOW
Aaron
WOW. WHAT A BABE. Mysterious, hot, secretive and a slight grouch with a hidden soft spot? Yeah sign me up!!! I’m going to be honest with y’all if her wasn’t as big of a part in this book there’s not way I would have finished. Literally giving it three stars because I love Aaron that’s it

All in all I LOVE AARON but Lina can kick rocks! She was lame :(
