All in all this was a pretty disappointing read. I was hoping for some Kim Stanley Robinson like exploration of climate and society, but I got a fantasy story that read more like a fairy tale than anything else.
It was not doors and the flying trains being people bit that kept pulling me out. It was the almost offensive simplicity of the problems, the flatness of most characters (or the antagonist for that matter) and the minuscule arc of any tension happening between these charactrers. Although there is some explicit sex and violence, the book reads like a children's book.
