we already know that war is cruel, that war is damning, and that war is unreplicable. what stood out to me was tim o'brien's commentary that he and perhaps all soldiers may only be able to represent the heinous truth of war through fiction, and that sometimes the real thing is just too complex to put on paper with the integrity of the emotions experienced.
